December 13 & 14 in Philly Support OpenNews!

Logistics

SRCCON:POWER takes place Dec. 13-14 at the Science History Institute, a museum and event space in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Getting to the venue

Our venue, the Science History Institute is at 315 Chestnut St. If you’re coming from the Wyndham Philadelphia, go south on N 4th St and hang a left (east) on Chestnut, we’ll be on your left about half a block over. If you’re coming on the blue (Market-Frankford) line, you’ll want the 2nd St Station, go one block south to Chestnut and a block and a half west (a smidge past 3rd).

Accessibility

The wheelchair-accessible pedestrian gate is available at the parking-lot entrance on 3rd Street between Chestnut and Market Streets. The pedestrian gate will be unlocked. If you’re traveling by car, drive up to the parking-lot gate, which will open automatically during regular business hours and events. You may park in any open spot marked “Visitor” or in one of two spots reserved for those with disabilities. To enter the building, call our receptionist via the intercom at the East Entrance for visitors and staff. You’ll go down the main hall to get to the registration desk.

Getting ready for SRCCON:POWER

This page should cover all the logistical details you may need as you get ready for SRCCON:POWER. If you’re still looking to make lodging arrangements, we’ve got a nearby hotel block and a roomshare list. For getting to the venue, you can also check out transit details. You can also let other attendees know about any games you might bring to play, or make plans for Friday night.

During SRCCON:POWER

We’ve tried to think of everything you might need, from hearty, tasty meals to childcare. And you can check out the full schedule.

When you arrive at the venue, we’ll have ample time for long hallway conversations and space to share things like job openings. You can also sign up now for small-group dinners on Thursday night. We’ve also gathered details about a local Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and places nearby to make sure your health needs are taken care of.

Also, the entirety of SRCCON:POWER is covered by our code of conduct. We have also created a support page with thoughts about how to support and care for one another.

Hotel

We have a discounted block of rooms at the Wyndham Philadelphia Historic District Hotel a few blocks from the conference venue. The nightly rate will be $179 plus taxes.

Online booking is no longer available for the hotel, but you can call Samena at the Wyndham (267-765-3345) and let her know you are part of the SRCCON group to receive the discount rate. The rate will be available until the hotel is sold out.

Room Share

Have a room and looking for a roommate? Don’t have a room and looking for someone who does? Add your info to the room share list.

Meals at SRCCON

We want you to be happy and well-fed at SRCCON:POWER, so we’re providing breakfast and lunch on both days. We’ll have tea, coffee, and snacks—both healthy and sugary—throughout the day as well. And we’ll gather in small groups for Thursday dinners!

More to Do/Eat/Drink/See

If you’re looking for things to do before, after, or during SRCCON:POWER, check out our conference info share. (And if you have ideas or questions, add to it!)

Childcare

We offer free, on-site childcare throughout the full SRCCON:WORK schedule (including Thursday dinner) at the nearby Wyndham Hotel. The caregivers act as employees of KiddieCorp (not contractors) and are recruited from local licensed daycare centers, elementary schools, preschools, and collegiate departments of early childhood education. Learn more about our free childcare now.

Getting Around Philly

The Old City neighborhood is accessible via bus and subway on public transit. The local transit organization is SEPTA. The closest subway station to the conference hotel and venue is 5th Street Independence Hall on the Market-Frankford Line (also known as “the El” or “blue line”). You can buy a refillable Key Card from kiosks at stations, or even single-ride tokens at some stations as well.

From the airport, you can get to Old City by regional rail train. Take the Airport Line to the Jefferson Station, then walk a block to the 11st Street Station and take the blue line to 5th Street Independence Hall (or just walk about 8 blocks to the hotel or conference venue). A one-way fare on the Airport Line is $8.

For those coming from the Amtrak train, the blue line station is just next to the station on Market Street.

Numerous bus lines also run on Market Street, which is one block north of the venue. In addition to public transit, the Old City area is exceptionally walkable and cabs are plentiful.

Alcoholics Anonymous

The closest meeting to SRCCON:WORK is Thursday night at 8pm, at The Underground, 401 Lombard Street at the Old Pine Community Center. It is an “open” meeting, meaning that you don’t have to be alcoholic to go. AA SEPIA also hosts a full list of area meetings.

Health Needs

There are plenty of drug stores and pharmacies near the conference hotel and venue.

If you have a health emergency, please contact conference staff or call the SRCCON:WORK Safety Helpline at (772) 266-2909. The nearest emergency clinic is Jefferson Urgent Care.
